What in the PWI (with Shalewa Mackall!)

66 minutes

Every decision has a consequence and trade-off, especially when it involves attending or working at a predominately white institution.

In this week's episode, Noleca and her Woe, Shalewa discuss what it's like to be a guide. They also speak on the gains they get from working with students, but also the trauma of having to compartmentalize racism and micro-aggressions from white colleagues, children, and parents at PWIs.

It's not cute. It's a lot to confront and it makes one wonder . . . is all hope lost? Are compromises inevitable or is there a better way?

What if, instead of squishing ourselves and conforming, Black and other people of color showed up as their full selves at these institutions?

Raising Rebels is a parenting podcast featuring courageous conversations with real parents. Parenting can be so lonely. Our work is to encourage children to be fully themselves in a society that doesn’t always celebrate them. This season, we tackle everything from sexuality and race, to co-parenting and money, all with the goal of liberating our children.
